There are variations on this idea already. My specific version, I'm not sure.
The inspiration from this is about my failed plans to "interview" my mother at some point, and hearing of others who are missing having chatted with their parents while they were still alive.
My thought was as a birthday present to a parent. As a tradition, possibly in addition to others presents.
Since people like talking about themselves, this should be in most cases received as a valued present more than an annoying chore.
But obviously, this needs a lot of fine tuning for each situation.
And for younger children it's more work for the parents to help with making the video, and storing it with the rest of the collection.
But the "birthday present" is more beneficial to the child later in life, and is kind of the point.
The real present is that the child takes the time to think up what question to ask this time.
This can also perhaps preserve stories from history that may become relevant later.
One implementation of the birthday video interview concept that exists is parents interviewing their children, what do you want to be in the future kind of thing I guess. Um, okay.
